Preserve education rights for students with disabilities

To: Rep. Sessions, Sen. Cornyn, Sen. Cruz

From: A constituent in Round Rock, TX

February 5

The Department of Education plays a crucial role in protecting the rights of students with disabilities and ensuring they have access to quality education. Without this federal agency, there would be no enforcement of laws like the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), which guarantees a free and appropriate public education to children with disabilities. Terminating the Department could jeopardize the progress made in ensuring equal educational opportunities for millions of students with special needs. Rather than eliminating this vital institution, efforts should be made to strengthen its ability to advocate for and safeguard the rights of one of our nation's most vulnerable student populations.
