The constant political attacks on SNAP, Medicaid, and assistance programs are having real-world consequences in West Virginia. Today, frontline employees in local DHHR/DoHS offices spent their day being accused by frightened and frustrated clients of trying to take away their benefits. Families are hearing political rhetoric and directing their anger toward the people processing applications, answering questions, and administering programs they did not create and cannot change. Federal elected officials have every right to debate policy. They do not have the right to score political points by demonizing programs or the people who rely on them while leaving frontline public servants to absorb the fallout. When inaccurate or inflammatory statements are repeated, public trust erodes. Confusion grows. Tensions rise. The result is that hardworking state employees become targets for decisions made in Charleston and Washington—not by the people sitting behind the intake desk. If you believe changes are needed, make your case honestly and take responsibility for your votes. Stop fueling misinformation that makes it harder for public servants to do their jobs and harder for struggling West Virginians to get clear, accurate information. Leadership should solve problems—not create new ones for the people doing the work every day.
