Reject the FY2027 Budget and Invest in American Families

To: Sen. Cornyn, Sen. Cruz, Rep. Carter

From: A constituent in Leander, TX

April 19

I am writing as your constituent to demand that you fight for the people you represent—not special interests, not political agendas, but everyday Americans who are struggling to make ends meet. President Trump’s proposed FY2027 budget is not just misguided—it is a betrayal of our country’s priorities and values. A 44% increase in defense spending, ballooning to $1.5 trillion, while slashing education and essential domestic programs by 10%, sends a clear and troubling message: that the needs of American families come second. That is unacceptable. We need fully funded public schools—not gutted programs and vague block grants that strip away accountability and leave our most vulnerable students behind. Replacing critical K-12 and Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) programs with no-strings-attached funding will disproportionately harm students with disabilities, low-income families, and rural communities. These are not abstract policy choices—these are real children whose futures are being put at risk. We need housing people can actually afford. We need groceries, gas, and basic necessities to be within reach for working families. We need accessible, affordable healthcare and medication—not policies that push more people into crisis or force them to choose between survival and financial ruin. This budget would mean more children going hungry. More pregnant women without access to proper nutrition. More families unable to keep the lights on or heat their homes. More Americans going without healthcare. That is not fiscal responsibility—it is moral failure. Congress has the power—and the responsibility—to reject this. You are elected to serve the American people. That means investing in our communities, our schools, our infrastructure, and our future. It means ensuring that every child has a fair shot, every family has stability, and every person can live with dignity. Do not allow this budget to move forward. Reject it outright and instead champion a vision that prioritizes education, affordability, and opportunity here at home. We are watching. We are paying attention. And we expect you to act.
