As contractors continue pouring into Big Bend and communities across South and West Texas, billions of American tax dollars are being spent to destroy American land. This has gone beyond a policy disagreement. It has gone beyond a crisis. It is becoming an irreversible tragedy. Congress has the constitutional authority to oversee federal spending and stop abuses of executive power. Despite claims that there is nothing Congress can do, there is—and your refusal to act is a choice. As members of the Texas congressional delegation, you were elected to protect Texas. Instead, you are allowing the destruction of Texas parks, Texas ranches, Texas communities, Texas families, Texas wildlife, Texas ecosystems, and our shared natural heritage. You often speak of defending Texas from invasion. Texas is indeed being invaded—but by contractors hired with federal tax dollars to bulldoze some of our most treasured landscapes. If you will not stand up for Texas now, when our own land is being permanently damaged, then what exactly are you willing to defend?
