To: Pres. Trump, Sen Scott, Sen. Graham, Sen. Nordone and others Subject: Support the Grid Accountability Act Dear Leaders, We need you. Scientific findings: In August 2003, one overgrown tree branch in Ohio touched a sagging power line. That single contact cascaded into the largest blackout in North American history — 50 million people without power. One branch, one domino, 50 million lives affected. This Act exists to make sure that never happens again. Purpose: This Act is not only about money. It is about building a clean system where every utility works together, every pole and transformer is accounted for, and the grid serves the people safely. Grid Accountability Act Section One: Every utility shall file customer counts, revenue, and outage data with the EIA within 30 days of month's end. Section Two: The EIA shall publish a live public dashboard within 48 hours of receiving the data. Section Three: Any utility missing the deadline shall pay 1% of annual revenue per month late. Section Four: Establish a new Office of Grid Intelligence inside the Department of Energy, staffed with data analysts and engineers, with authority to identify system failures and recommend new technologies and solutions to all utility companies, so we do not suffer a domino effect that could wipe us all out. Section Five: Utility records must be transparent. Branched service companies must be transparent about work being done and that they are maintaining the grid properly for states, counties, and cities. For example, I have a power line in my backyard in Prosperity, SC that I have reported to Newberry Co-op operations three times and it still has not been fixed, which suggests they are charging for repeat evaluations without resolution. Section Six: The Office may subpoena raw meter data, transformer logs, and outage records, and must compare them against what was filed.
