I’m frustrated by how much the flying experience has deteriorated for ordinary Americans. Taxpayers helped bail out airlines when they needed support, yet today it feels like airlines are finding more and more ways to charge customers while providing less value. Basic Economy fares often lock travelers out of upgrades, seat selection, and other benefits unless they pay significantly more. What makes this especially frustrating is that airlines aggressively market credit cards that encourage customers to earn points and rewards. If the ticket I can afford to buy is ineligible for upgrades or meaningful redemption options, what exactly am I earning those points for? I urge Congress to investigate airline pricing practices, loyalty program restrictions, and consumer protections to ensure travelers receive fair value and greater transparency.
