For years, American families whose loved ones were killed in the occupied West Bank have been denied justice and accountability. For years, Palestinians have faced violence, abuse, and impunity without meaningful consequences. You have an opportunity to force the truth into the public record.
Led by Senators Chris Van Hollen (D-MD), Tim Kaine (D_VA), and Bernie Sanders (I-VT), S. Res. 852 would require the State Department to submit an unclassified report to Congress addressing:
Americans killed in the occupied West Bank, including evidence related to their deaths, the status of investigations, and efforts to hold those responsible accountable.
Americans detained by Israeli authorities, including the basis for their detention and credible reports of mistreatment.
Palestinian children subjected to military detention, including allegations of torture and abuse.
Whether U.S. assistance has reached Israeli units implicated in gross human rights violations and what actions American officials have taken to pursue accountability.
The American people deserve answers. Congress deserves answers. The families of Americans killed abroad deserve answers. No senator should vote to keep the public in the dark about what the U.S. government knows regarding the killings of Americans, abuses against Palestinians, and the use of American taxpayer-funded assistance.
Under the law invoked by S. Res. 852, failure to provide the required report within 30 days could trigger restrictions on covered security assistance. Adoption of the resolution itself would not immediately cut off aid. It would, however, require the administration to disclose information that Congress and the public have a right to know.
I urge you to vote YES when S. Res. 852 comes up for a vote.
