The disturbing actions of the current president represent a severe threat to American democracy and the rule of law. As elected representatives, we have a solemn duty to defend the Constitution against all enemies, foreign and domestic. Failure to hold accountable those who seek to undermine our democratic institutions through unlawful means would set a dangerous precedent and embolden future authoritarians. Allegations of criminal conduct must be thoroughly investigated and, if substantiated, prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law, regardless of political affiliation or consequence. The American people deserve leaders who will uphold their oath to preserve, protect, and defend the Constitution above partisan interests or fear of retaliation. It is imperative that we demonstrate unwavering commitment to justice and the democratic process enshrined in our founding documents.
