I am writing to express my continued outrage at this Republican administration’s ongoing tariff fiasco, which continues to drive up consumer prices, decimate retirement savings and undermine our credibility on the world stage. The President’s sudden revoking of some tariffs has done nothing to assuage the damage already done. My 401k has lost years of growth. Others have lost more. Why has nothing been done to stop this? Worse, there are now credible reports of members of Congress investing thousands of dollars in stocks the day before the President made his latest announcement. This screams of illegal insider-trading among the President’s cronies. And now we learn House Republicans have included language in the current budget resolution banning the House from voting to terminate the President’s tariff-creating emergency declaration until October. It is imperative you and your fellow congresspeople act IMMEDIATELY to reclaim your Article One powers and restore financial stability to the U.S. and the world. The President’s on-again, off-again approach is wreaking havoc. The power to impose tariffs was given solely to Congress to avoid just such a scenario. My wife and I urge you to stand with your colleagues drafting meaningful measures to immediately take back the power of the purse from the executive branch and restore congressional oversight on any and all tariffs.
