I am writing to express my strong opposition to the administration’s request for an additional $200 billion in funding for the ongoing conflict with Iran. As a citizen who prioritizes the strength and solvency of our own nation, I believe this expenditure is a step in the wrong direction for the American economy and our national security strategy. The current military engagement, initiated without a formal Declaration of War or an Authorization for Use of Military Force from Congress, is a departure from our constitutional principles. More importantly, it is a departure from the interests of the American people. This conflict is deeply unpopular, and our citizens should not be asked to shoulder the bill for a war that does not serve our national interest. The economic reality is stark. The closure of the Strait of Hormuz is a self-inflicted wound to our economy. Driving up gas prices and destabilizing the stock market punishes the American worker and the American family. Our homeland is protected by the strongest nuclear deterrent in the world. We do not need to deplete our treasury or our conventional stockpiles on a foreign war of attrition when our borders remain vulnerable. I urge you to pivot our military resources away from fighting Israel’s war and toward the urgent threats at our own doorstep. If our military is running low on munitions, they should be recalled to the United States. Our soldiers should be deployed to secure our Southern Border from the drug cartels that are poisoning our citizens with fentanyl and profiting from human trafficking. Mr. President, I ask you to put the American taxpayer and the American border first. Please withdraw this $200 billion request and bring our focus back to the security and prosperity of the United States.
