Abolish ICE — Protect Lives, Rights, and the Rule of Law

To: Sen. Cruz, Rep. Roy, Sen. Cornyn

From: A constituent in Bandera, TX

January 30

I am writing to demand, in no uncertain terms, that you support immediate legislation to abolish U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and end its brutal and unchecked enforcement regime. As your constituent, I am appalled and horrified by the documented conduct of this agency and the systemic violence it has inflicted on communities across this country. Recent events have laid bare the reality that ICE is not merely an immigration enforcement agency, but an institution that operates with impunity and with profound disregard for human life and civil liberties. The deaths of Alex Pretti and Renée Good in Minneapolis at the hands of federal immigration agents have sparked national outrage and widespread protests demanding that Congress dismantle this agency once and for all. Public opinion is shifting dramatically. A YouGov poll conducted just days after these fatal shootings shows more Americans now support abolishing ICE than oppose it — including expanding support across traditional party lines. This is not an isolated issue. Across the country, communities and advocacy organizations are organizing national shutdowns and strikes, explicitly calling for ICE’s abolition. And it’s no wonder: far too many families have been terrorized by aggressive enforcement raids in neighborhoods, workplaces, and schools. In one shocking incident, a five-year-old child was taken into custody by immigration agents in his own driveway, a visceral symbol of how far the agency has strayed from any semblance of humane practice. Meanwhile, states and local leaders are taking matters into their own hands — proposing laws to limit or ban cooperation with ICE and strip local law enforcement of the authority to act as federal immigration agents. This moment requires leadership, not euphemism. Abolishing ICE is not a fringe demand — it is a necessary corrective to decades of unchecked expansion of federal immigration enforcement that has trampled constitutional rights, undermined local autonomy, and inflicted irreparable trauma on immigrant and citizen communities alike. I demand that you: - Publicly endorse legislation to abolish ICE. - Oppose any and all appropriations that fund ICE’s detention and enforcement apparatus. - Support transitional frameworks to replace civil immigration enforcement with a system that respects due process, human rights, and community safety. Anything less is a betrayal of the values of justice, dignity, and accountability that you swore to uphold. I look forward to your prompt and decisive response.
