Stop Rushing AI Into Federal Agencies Without Accountability

To: Sen. Schmitt, Sen. Hawley

From: A verified voter in Kansas City, MO

May 21

I am deeply concerned about the federal government’s reckless push to implement artificial intelligence systems across agencies before addressing the serious operational failures already plaguing those institutions. The government cannot responsibly deploy AI at scale while agencies remain understaffed, outdated systems remain vulnerable, cybersecurity concerns continue growing, and oversight mechanisms are being weakened instead of strengthened. Rushing AI into critical federal operations without first cleaning house creates enormous risks for Americans’ privacy, security, and access to essential services. AI should never become an excuse to replace experienced public servants, cut corners, or automate flawed systems that already fail the public. If agencies cannot maintain transparency and accountability now, adding poorly supervised AI tools will only magnify errors, bias, inefficiency, and abuse. Americans deserve thoughtful modernization, not political hype and rushed implementation driven by tech industry pressure or partisan talking points. Federal agencies should first focus on strengthening cybersecurity, retaining qualified staff, improving transparency, modernizing infrastructure responsibly, and establishing enforceable safeguards before expanding AI use in sensitive areas like healthcare, law enforcement, benefits administration, and public records. I urge you to publicly support stronger oversight, independent auditing requirements, and clear accountability standards before further AI expansion moves forward. Government exists to serve citizens, not to become a testing ground for unproven technology implemented without adequate safeguards. Your constituents are paying attention, and many of us are tired of watching elected officials prioritize political agendas and corporate interests over competent governance and public trust.
