Governing Is Not About Personal Grievance

To: Pres. Trump

From: A constituent in Austin, TX

January 5

If reports are accurate that you withheld support for a democratic leader in Venezuela because she accepted a Nobel Peace Prize, that decision reflects a fundamental misunderstanding of leadership and responsibility. The presidency is not about personal recognition. It is not about who gets credit, who gets praised, or who flatters your ego. It is about serving the public interest and upholding democratic values, even when doing so brings you no personal reward. Millions of Venezuelans live under repression, violence, and economic collapse. Their future should not be treated as leverage in a personal grievance over an international award. Reducing foreign policy to resentment and entitlement is not strength. It is recklessness. You have repeatedly claimed to stand for strong leadership. Strong leaders do not sabotage democratic movements because of bruised pride. They do not treat global governance like a competition for trophies. History does not remember who wanted an award. It remembers who acted responsibly when they had power.
