I am writing to strongly oppose the recent weakening of Endangered Species Act protections for newly listed threatened species. At a time when wildlife across our country is facing increasing pressure from habitat loss, climate change, and development, reducing protections is the wrong direction. The Endangered Species Act has been one of our nation’s most successful conservation laws because it acts before species reach the brink of extinction. Weakening automatic protections for threatened species creates unnecessary risk and undermines decades of bipartisan conservation progress. As your constituent, I urge you to take immediate action to restore these protections and oppose any further efforts to weaken the Endangered Species Act. America’s wildlife belongs to all of us, and Congress has a responsibility to ensure that threatened species receive meaningful protection before it is too late. Future generations deserve to inherit healthy ecosystems, not a growing list of preventable extinctions. I ask that you stand up for science, conservation, and our nation’s natural heritage by defending and strengthening the Endangered Species Act. I will be paying close attention to how you act on this issue, and I expect you to support legislation that restores and protects these critical safeguards.
