This measure embedded in the GOP tax bill grants the Secretary of the Treasury broad discretion to revoke nonprofits' tax-exempt status on mere accusations of supporting "terrorism," without due process. This vague language could enable the Trump administration to weaponize this power and target any organization it wishes to punish - from disability rights groups to universities that allow protests on campus. Even having to litigate such charges imposes a severe burden on nonprofits' limited resources and would chill free speech nationwide. To protect civil liberties and the right to dissent, it is crucial that this "nonprofit killer" provision be removed from the tax legislation. Do not allow the White House to wield such unchecked authority to silence its critics and dissenters.
