I am writing to ask you to support changing the Department of Defense back to the Department of War. I also support using the clear term “warfighters” for our service members.
Plain words create clear thinking. Our military’s real job is to fight and win wars when necessary to protect America. The name “Department of Defense” sounds softer and less direct. This can confuse our own people, our allies, and our enemies. It hides the truth that we must be ready and willing to win wars to keep our country safe.
Calling things what they are shows real strength. Honest names reduce dangerous mistakes by our adversaries. They also honor the men and women who serve. They train every day to fight and win. They are warfighters. Using the right words gives them pride in their vital work.
The cost to update signs, forms, and documents is small. It is a one-time expense. We should not let this minor cost block us from using truthful names.
I urge you to vote for the funding and legislation needed to make this name change. America needs straight talk and strong leadership on defense.
Thank you for your time and service.
