An Open Letter
To: Sen. Moreno, Sen. Husted, Rep. Brown
From: A constituent in Shaker Heights, OH

Subject: CONSTITUENT DOCTOR: VOTE NO on the Confirmation of Casey Means As a board-certified physician, I am writing to express my grave concerns regarding the nomination of Casey Means for the position of United States Surgeon General. I strongly urge you to vote NO on her confirmation. The Surgeon General is the nation’s leading spokesperson on matters of public health and must be an individual of the highest clinical and scientific standing. It is deeply disturbing that the individual being considered for this role failed to complete her residency training, lacks formal board certification in any medical specialty, and does not currently hold an active medical license. To appoint someone to oversee the 6,000 members of the U.S. Public Health Service Commissioned Corps who has abandoned the rigors of clinical practice for the world of "wellness influencing" is a dangerous departure from precedent and a threat to the integrity of our medical institutions. My concerns are not merely academic, they are rooted in the immediate public health crises we are witnessing in our home state of Florida. In the past two years, Florida has faced significant challenges, including: • Measles Outbreaks: We have seen a resurgence of preventable diseases like measles, driven by vaccine hesitancy and the erosion of trust in evidence-based medicine. In 2025 alone, the U.S. saw over 2,200 cases—the highest in decades—with Florida serving as a focal point for these preventable public health failures. Casey Means was unable to advise appropriately regarding the dangers of these diseases and the importance of vaccines. I am personally terrified to raise children in this state due to the risks of unvaccinated population here. Many children are not fully vaccinated with their MMR vaccines until ages 4-6. To put babies lives at risk by eroding faith in our life saving vaccines, will lead to needless deaths. • Erosion of Evidence-Based Guidance: At a time when clear, science-driven communication is vital to saving lives, the nomination of an individual who has equivocated on routine childhood vaccinations is perilous. The American people deserve a Surgeon General who is "highly trained" and possesses the clinical experience necessary to navigate complex health emergencies. Casey Means lacks the essential credentials to provide the authoritative, evidence-based guidance that the Office of the Surgeon General demands. I ask you to prioritize the safety and health of your constituents by rejecting this nomination and calling for a candidate with a proven track record of medical excellence and commitment to public health.
