Vote No on Dangerous HCR 5006 Gun Amendment
To: Sen. Owens, Rep. Anderson

February 25, 2025
Constitutional amendments to expand gun rights through measures like HCR 5006 should be rejected as they undermine public safety and enable dangerous individuals like convicted felons to gain access to firearms and accessories. This resolution imposes a strict legal scrutiny that could weaken existing regulations and obstruct reasonable future gun laws, putting communities at risk. Kansans' right to bear arms is already well-protected, and this goes too far by prioritizing unrestricted access over sensible safeguards. Law enforcement's ability to intervene and prevent gun violence would be severely limited. Moreover, such an amendment invites costly litigation from criminals seeking to exploit loopholes, wasting taxpayer funds. For the safety of all Kansans, I urge you to vote no on this misguided and hazardous constitutional amendment.
