I am writing to you today as a concerned constituent to express my deep unease regarding recent developments involving the President’s response to the Supreme Court’s ruling on global blanket tariffs. The President’s behavior highlights a pattern that is increasingly dangerous to the stability of our Republic and the separation of powers that you are sworn to protect. The Supreme Court—a body that currently holds a 6-3 conservative majority, including three justices appointed by the President himself—rightfully ruled that the proposed global blanket tariffs are illegal. Rather than respecting this constitutional check on executive power, the President has responded with what can only be described as a paranoid and vitriolic attack on the judiciary. I am particularly troubled by the following rhetoric and actions: • Attacks on Judicial Integrity: The President has labeled justices who ruled against him as a "disgrace to our nation," "unpatriotic," and "fools." Most alarmingly, he has suggested, without evidence, that these justices are being controlled by "foreign interests." This type of rhetoric erodes public trust in the law and the independence of our courts. • Claims of Absolute Power: In recent remarks, the President asserted that his power includes the ability to "destroy the trade" and "destroy the country" at will. Such claims of unchecked authority are fundamentally at odds with the principles of American democracy and the "strongman rule" mindset that our Founders sought to prevent. • Loyalty Politics: The President continues to treat the judiciary as an extension of his personal political apparatus, praising only those who rule in his favor and labeling those who do not as "traitors." This "loyalty politics" undermines the very foundation of an impartial justice system. • Concerns Over Fitness and Stability: The escalating suspicion, emotional volatility, and detachment from reality observed in these public outbursts raise serious questions regarding the President's mental fitness and cognitive stability. As representatives of Wyoming—a state that values the Constitution and the rule of law—I urge you to stand firm in defense of our institutions. It is critical that the legislative branch serves as a robust check on executive overreach, especially when the President suggests that any limitation on his desires is "illegitimate." When a leader begins to believe they alone represent the country and that the law does not apply to them, the stability of our democracy is at risk. I ask that you publicly reaffirm your support for judicial independence and the constitutional limits placed on the executive branch.
