This proposed legislation would require electronic device manufacturers to install filters to block obscene material that is harmful to minors. However, history has shown that such content filtering measures can disproportionately censor and restrict access to LGBTQ+ online content and communities. Legitimate educational resources and safe spaces for queer youth could become inaccessible under overly broad censorship rules. While protecting minors is a valid concern, this approach risks infringing on free expression and access to important information and support networks. I urge you to carefully consider the unintended consequences and potential for overreach with this type of blanket censorship. There may be more targeted solutions that balance child safety with preserving open internet access for all.
