Protect civil liberties, promote open dialogue on campus

To: Sen. Thune, Rep. Johnson, Sen. Rounds

From: A verified voter in Sioux Falls, SD

March 10

I understand your desire to defend First Amendment rights and freedom of speech. However, deporting activists and limiting protests on campus raises significant civil liberties concerns. Instead of cracking down on dissent, we should promote open dialogue and protect the rights of all people to express their views peacefully. Using immigration enforcement as a tool to suppress activism is a threat to democratic values. I urge you to reconsider these policies that undermine core constitutional protections and disproportionately impact vulnerable communities. There are better ways to address disagreements that don't involve violating fundamental freedoms.
