Silence Is Complicity — Oppose the Criminalization of Protest

To: Rep. Nunn, Sen. Ernst, Sen. Grassley

From: A verified voter in Des Moines, IA

February 28

I am writing as your constituent to demand you publicly oppose the Department of Justice’s mass prosecution of 39 people for protesting at Cities Church in St. Paul, Minnesota. These Americans were peacefully exercising their First Amendment rights. Charging them with “conspiracy against religious freedom” — and having the White House circulate a doctored photo to humiliate one of the defendants — is not justice. It is the weaponization of law enforcement against political dissent. I am asking you to condemn these prosecutions, call for a congressional investigation into the political motivations behind them, and oppose any effort to further criminalize protected speech and assembly. Silence is complicity. If you support this administration’s assault on the First Amendment, you share responsibility for it. I will be watching your response.
