Don’t cut funding for suicide prevention

To: Rep. Flood, Sen. Fischer, Sen. Ricketts

From: A constituent in Bellevue, NE

April 25

The Trump administration's proposal to eliminate funding for the 988 Suicide Prevention and Crisis Lifeline's specialized services for LGBTQ+ youth is deeply concerning. Data shows LGBTQ+ youth face disproportionately higher risks of suicide compared to their peers. Cutting access to these vital crisis support resources would put vulnerable young lives at risk. As a member of this community and someone who values protecting all citizens, I urge you to maintain funding for the LGBTQ+ youth subnetwork within the 988 Lifeline. These specialized services provide a potential lifeline to those struggling with their mental health and suicidal ideation. Preserving and expanding access to culturally competent crisis care should be a priority. I hope you will advocate against any budgetary cuts that endanger the wellbeing and safety of LGBTQ+ youth.
