Condemn the Unauthorized War Against Iran. Your Constituents Are Watching

To: Sen. Cruz, Sen. Cornyn, Rep. Menefee

From: A constituent in Houston, TX

March 18

I am writing as your constituent to express my deep opposition to the ongoing U.S. military strikes against Iran, known as Operation Epic Fury, and to urge you in the strongest possible terms to use your voice and your authority to challenge this administration’s conduct. On February 28, 2026, the United States and Israel launched a sweeping military campaign against Iran without a formal declaration of war from Congress. This is not a limited defensive action, it is a full-scale offensive war, now in its third week, that has resulted in the deaths of thousands of civilians, the assassination of Iran’s Supreme Leader, and the destruction of schools, hospitals, and civilian infrastructure. The World Health Organization has confirmed that at least 18 medical facilities have been struck. A single airstrike on an elementary school in Minab killed more than 170 people, most of them young girls. These are not acceptable outcomes. They are catastrophic ones. Congress has not authorized this war. The War Powers Resolution exists precisely to prevent a president from unilaterally plunging this nation into open-ended armed conflict. The administration has bypassed that framework, and silence from Congress is not neutrality, it is complicity. I am also alarmed by the broader consequences now unfolding: the Strait of Hormuz has been closed, disrupting global oil supplies; allied military installations across the region have been struck; and the conflict has spread across more than a dozen countries. Diplomacy was reportedly making progress as recently as February 25. The decision to abandon negotiations in favor of military force including the assassination of a head of state has unleashed consequences that will take years, if not decades, to resolve. I urge you to publicly oppose this war, demand a full congressional debate on its authorization, and support any legislative effort to reassert Congress’s constitutional role in matters of war and peace. History will judge those who stayed silent.
