Hi, I’m a constituent from Santa Monica, a CDP Delegate from AD 51, and a member of Indivisible Westside Los Angeles. I’m reaching out to urge you to repeal the Comstock Act during the current Congress. As you probably know, the Comstock Act of 1873 was a Puritanical measure that, among other things, banned the mailing of any abortion-related medications or instruments. Now that the extremist majority on the Supreme Court has struck down Roe v. Wade, Comstock could easily be revived and used by a Republican White House to effectively ban abortion nationwide. Two of the conservative justices openly signaled their openness to such a strategy, during recent oral arguments concerning the legality of mifepristone. Others may be quietly willing to go along with it as well. Rep. Cori Bush and Sen. Tina Brown are leading efforts in their respective chambers to repeal the Comstock Act NOW and take this ticking time bomb off the table before it can be used to further hack away at the abortion rights that a majority of Americans cherish. I urge you to do everything in your power to repeal Comstock NOW, before a new administration has a chance to abuse it. Thank you for your time and attention.
