I am writing as a concerned resident of Westfield to urge you to oppose the proposed lithium battery storage facility in our town. While we understand the importance of renewable energy and innovation, placing this kind of high-risk infrastructure in a residential area is dangerous, short-sighted, and contrary to the best interests of our community.
Lithium battery storage facilities carry well-documented risks, including fire hazards, toxic chemical leaks, and potential explosions. These are not abstract concerns—they are very real threats that have already caused incidents in other communities. The proximity of this facility to homes, schools, and natural resources in Westfield makes it entirely unsuitable.
We are also deeply concerned about the long-term environmental impacts. Our town has already dealt with contamination issues in the past, and we cannot afford to jeopardize our land, air, and water again. The health and safety of our families must come first.
Westfield residents were not adequately informed or consulted about this project. The lack of transparency and community input is unacceptable. We deserve to have a voice in decisions that affect our safety, property values, and overall quality of life.
We urge you to stand with us. Please advocate against this project and push for safer, more appropriate locations for energy infrastructure—ones that do not put entire neighborhoods at risk.
Thank you for your time, your leadership, and your commitment to protecting our town.
