I am writing as your constituent and as the parent of two young children to urge you to strongly defend Minnesota’s new law prohibiting AI tools from creating fake nude images of children and other individuals without their consent. The recent lawsuit by Elon Musk’s xAI challenging this law is deeply concerning. As a parent, I worry about the world my children are growing up in and the ways emerging technology can be misused to exploit and humiliate kids. No parent should have to fear that a simple photo of their child could be manipulated into explicit content through AI. Innovation and free expression are important, but they should never come at the expense of children’s safety. AI-generated fake nude images can cause lasting emotional, psychological, and reputational harm, particularly to minors who have no ability to protect themselves from this kind of abuse. Minnesota has taken a thoughtful step to address a growing threat by requiring meaningful safeguards against AI-enabled exploitation. This law is about protecting children and victims—not restricting legitimate innovation or responsible uses of artificial intelligence. Please stand with Minnesota families and defend this law against efforts to weaken it. Technology companies that create powerful AI tools should be expected to take reasonable steps to prevent their products from being used to exploit children. As a parent, I want my children to grow up in a state that puts their safety ahead of corporate interests. Thank you for your service and for protecting Minnesota’s children.
