Congress Must Act - The Executive Branch Has Abdicated Its Duty

To: Sen. Husted, Rep. Beatty, Sen. Moreno

From: A verified voter in Westerville, OH

March 1

I write to you today not just as a concerned citizen, but as an American who is heartbroken and outraged by what I witnessed yesterday in the Oval Office. What I saw was not leadership—it was an abdication of America’s role on the world stage. It was the leader of the free world retreating from responsibility, signaling to our allies that we can no longer be trusted, and giving comfort to our adversaries. Today, for the first time in my life, the President of the United States has made it feel meaningless to be an American. This CANNOT be allowed to continue. The evidence is undeniable: The Russian government has infiltrated the executive branch, and its influence is systematically eroding our institutions, our alliances, and our ability to respond to global threats. This is not a matter of partisan politics; this is a matter of national security and sovereignty. The American people are watching in disbelief as our leaders abandon democratic values, dismantle global partnerships, and serve foreign interests at the expense of our own. And now, with reckless tariff policies, this administration is not just undermining our global leadership—it is actively making Americans weaker. The newly proposed tariffs will raise prices on essential goods, disrupt supply chains, and hurt American businesses that rely on international trade. At a time when we should be strengthening our economy and our alliances, these tariffs will do the opposite: they will isolate us, drive inflation, and push American jobs and production overseas. These policies do not serve the American people. They serve a geopolitical agenda that is designed to destabilize our economy and diminish our power on the world stage. Our adversaries want us weaker. They want us divided. And this administration is delivering exactly that. Congress must act now. The American people are at a breaking point. The checks and balances enshrined in our Constitution were designed for moments like this—to prevent the consolidation of power, to hold the executive branch accountable, and to safeguard our democracy from corruption and foreign influence. I urge you to: 1. Launch an immediate, bipartisan investigation into the foreign influence affecting the White House and its decision-making. 2. Hold public hearings to expose the truth and allow the American people to understand the full extent of this crisis. 3. Exercise your constitutional authority to limit and counteract any executive actions—including tariffs—that weaken our economy and global standing. 4. Reaffirm America’s commitment to its allies and take decisive legislative action to support Ukraine, NATO, and other democratic institutions under threat. If Congress fails to act, history will remember this moment not as an oversight, but as a betrayal of the American people. Do not let this moment pass. The American people demand accountability. We demand leadership. We demand action.
