As the autistic father of an autistic son, I am absolutely outrage at how Trump‘s Secretary of Health and Human Services is spreading misinformation about vaccines and the causes of autism. He’s gutting legitimate research into autism that can give us better understanding in the name of populist BS. He is dehumanizing autistic children, particularly HSN autistic children by focusing exclusively on the impact of the disability on parents and caregivers. At the same time, Trump’s policies are cutting. The vital supports that are needed to help children and adults with high support needs. In a display of amazing hypocrisy they are taking away DEI initiatives in schools, gutting the department of education which threatens enforcement of school supports for disabled children. And they’re destroying the safety that that can provide disabled people or their caregivers with income. Don’t get me started on how no one is doing anything to ensure that therapy, support groups, and medical treatment or medication are accessible and affordable to all. I urge you to demand that RFK answer important questions about this health registry which seems to potentially threaten the rights of not only the autistic people, but all Americans, as they collected database of health data. I also urge you to support efforts to provide real support, social medical and educational to people with disabilities. And to strengthen existing laws or stop Trump’s attempts to weaken them. Call their bluff. Because they really wanna help families with autism let them provide actual help.
