Stop the sick jokes and misinformation about assassination

To: Gov. Walz, Sen. Oumou Verbeten, Rep. Finke

From: A verified voter in Saint Paul, MN

June 17, 2025

The persistent spread of misinformation and promotion of violence against public figures is deeply concerning. Promoting assassination attempts or conspiracy theories that enable such rhetoric is unacceptable and undermines democratic principles. Public officials should be subject to scrutiny and criticism, but threats and false narratives cross an ethical line. I urge you to decisively condemn this harmful disinformation and take steps to counter its proliferation across all platforms. Upholding truthful discourse and rejecting incitements to violence are essential for preserving civil society and the integrity of public institutions. Citizens rely on elected leaders to model respectful dialogue, even amid disagreement. Failing to address this issue erodes trust and enables further normalization of extremist ideologies. Responsible leadership demands a firm stance against inflammatory falsehoods that jeopardize public safety and democratic values.
