The President’s repeated attempts to acquire Greenland represent a clear abuse of power and warrant impeachment. Greenland has explicitly stated that it does not want to be bought. Ignoring the democratic will and self-determination of an entire population—while pressuring Denmark, a long-standing U.S. ally—is not diplomacy, it is coercion. Denmark has stood by the United States for decades, including providing disproportionate support during the war in Afghanistan. Treating an ally this way undermines U.S. credibility and international stability. There is no legitimate national interest that requires the United States to annex Greenland. Strategic cooperation, defense agreements, and alliance-based security already address concerns related to China and Russia. The only clear beneficiaries of this proposal are private investors and tech interests positioned to profit from Greenland’s mineral resources. This proposal fits a broader pattern of corruption: using the authority of the presidency to advance schemes that enrich wealthy donors and politically connected business interests while shifting the financial burden onto taxpayers. Americans were never asked whether they wanted to pay for Greenland, nor should they be forced to do so indirectly through tariffs that raise consumer prices and function as regressive taxes. The Greenland proposal is not only unserious and destabilizing, it is emblematic of a presidency that treats public office as a vehicle for private gain. Congress has a constitutional obligation to check this behavior. Failing to act signals that there are no consequences for abusing executive power in service of billionaire interests. Impeachment is not about politics; it is about accountability. This conduct meets the standard.
