The biannual practice of switching between standard and daylight saving time has been shown to have detrimental impacts on public health, safety, and economic productivity. Research links the clock changes to increased risks of heart attacks, workplace injuries, traffic accidents, and even higher suicide rates. Ditching this outdated system by establishing permanent standard time would align our schedules with the natural daily cycles governed by the sun's position. This change would remove the disruptive semi-annual time shifts, promoting improved sleep patterns, safety, and overall wellbeing. It's time we join Arizona and Hawaii in abandoning the switching of clocks twice a year and adopt a permanent standard time policy for the benefit of all Washingtonians.
