Tariffs are damaging our economy. Why wasn’t Russia included?

To: Rep. Crane, Sen. Gallego, Sen. Kelly

From: A constituent in Kearny, AZ

April 4

The tariffs implemented against numerous countries and territories have not led to the intended goal of lowering prices for American consumers. Instead, they have created unnecessary economic disruptions and strained relationships with key trading partners. Notably, the exclusion of Russia from these tariffs raises concerns about the true motivations behind the trade policies. I urge you to reconsider the broad-based tariff approach, as it is counterproductive to the nation's economic interests. A comprehensive review is necessary to assess the impacts on industries, consumers, and diplomatic relations. Engaging in targeted negotiations with trading partners, rather than unilateral tariffs, would be a more effective strategy to address genuine trade imbalances and unfair practices. Furthermore, the rationale behind exempting Russia, a significant economic and geopolitical rival, from these tariffs warrants thorough investigation. Ensuring transparency and impartiality in trade policy decisions is crucial to maintaining public trust and upholding the principles of fair trade. The American people deserve a clear explanation for this apparent discrepancy. I respectfully request that you take immediate action to reevaluate the current trade policies, prioritizing evidence-based solutions that foster economic growth, protect American interests, and strengthen international cooperation. A balanced and judicious approach to trade relations is essential for the nation's long-term prosperity and global standing.
