Stop Racial Gerrymandering and Restore the Voting Rights Act

To: Sen. Bumstead, Gov. Whitmer, Rep. Roth

From: A constituent in Beulah, MI

April 30

Racial gerrymandering is a direct assault on our democracy that systematically silences Black communities. By 'cracking' communities across multiple districts or 'packing' them into a single one, partisan map-makers are making it impossible for minority voters to elect candidates of their choice. We, the undersigned, demand that our federal and state representatives take immediate action to: 1 Pass the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act. 2 Ban 'partisan' excuses for maps that result in racial vote dilution. 3 Mandate non-partisan, independent commissions for all future redistricting. Our vote is our voice; it must not be silenced by the lines you draw."
