From: A verified voter in Gardner, KS
January 22
I am writing as a constituent to express my disappointment and concern regarding your absence from the long-scheduled Johnson County annual education meeting. This was not a last-minute or informal gathering—it was a key opportunity for legislators to hear directly from educators, administrators, and families about the real conditions facing our public schools.
Public education is one of the most important responsibilities of state government. Your absence from this meeting, combined with your voting record opposing full funding for education and special education, raises serious questions about whether our district’s priorities are being adequately represented in Topeka.
I am particularly troubled given your close personal connection to public education. Your wife’s service on our local school board suggests an understanding of the challenges schools face—from staffing shortages to special education mandates that remain chronically underfunded. That connection makes your lack of engagement at this meeting even harder to reconcile.
Kansas students, educators, and families deserve representatives who show up, listen, and advocate consistently for fully funded public education. Johnson County expects leadership that treats education as a core obligation, not an afterthought.
I urge you to reflect on how your attendance, your votes, and your advocacy align with the needs of this district. We need stronger representation in Topeka—representation that is present, informed, and willing to invest in the future of our schools.
I would appreciate a response explaining your absence from the meeting and how you plan to support full funding for public education and special education going forward.
