Dear Members of Congress,
I am writing to urge Congress to establish safe, stable, accessible, and affordable housing as a permanent national priority.
Housing is foundational to stability and opportunity, yet millions face rising costs, displacement, and insecurity.
Market-based approaches alone will not meet the nation’s housing needs. Direct federal action is required.
I urge Congress to enact a National Affordable and Social Housing Act that would:
1 Provide sustained funding for permanently affordable housing.
2 Repair and expand public housing without privatization.
3 Increase rental assistance availability.
4 Support community-based housing models.
5 Develop mixed-income social housing.
6 Strengthen tenant protections.
7 Ensure accessibility for older adults and people with disabilities.
8 Expand supportive housing programs.
9 Assist first-time homebuyers responsibly.
10 Increase transparency in housing ownership.
11 Tie federal funding to long-term affordability and community benefit.
12 Conduct regular housing-needs assessments.
Federal housing policy should prioritize residents and communities over speculation.
I urge Congress to build and preserve sufficient affordable housing nationwide.
