I must express my strong opposition to any recess appointments during the upcoming congressional break. Recess appointments undermine the constitutional authority of the Senate to provide advice and consent on presidential nominations. They represent an abuse of executive power and a circumvention of the system of checks and balances. Recess appointments deprive senators of their rightful role in vetting nominees and ensuring they are qualified and fit to serve. They prevent meaningful public scrutiny and debate. This process is critical for maintaining accountability and transparency in our government. Recess appointments rob the American people of a voice in this important process. Previous recess appointments have proven disruptive and divisive. They engender partisan rancor and deepen mistrust in our institutions at a time when faith in government is already deeply shaken. I urge you to forcefully reject any recess appointments and insist on regular order and adherence to constitutional norms. We must protect the Senate's advise and consent role as a cornerstone of our democracy. There can be no shortcuts when it comes to such a foundational principle.
