Defend the country NOW

To: Sen. Gallego, Sen. Kelly

From: A constituent in Tucson, AZ

June 24

In the past years, I’ve taken the time to write you on many many different subjects - large and small. All of which, in some way, affect me and my family and other citizens of Tucson, Arizona. Right now I’m writing you again with a lump in my throat, asking you to please stand against the biggest threat we’ve ever faced. What Trump did when he ordered bombs to be dropped in Iran without congressional review or approval was the biggest rejection of our checks and balances that has ever occurred in this country. Not a single representative should be silent about this. It was a blatant, impeachable offense and it was an act of war at that. I am horrified. The people of Tucson and this country have been absolutely quaking since Trump came to power. The abuses, the flagrant lies, the racist and xenophobic attacks that have become all but normalized are not ok. It leaves us restless, sleepless, and scared. It hurts the people we love, and it threatens the diversity that makes us great. However, this move by Trump was a blatant display of autocratic leadership and a deliberate demonstration that he believes your jobs and your representation are obsolete. And that’s NOT right. Every member of Congress should be standing up and speaking up against this right now. There is no next step. This is the end of democracy. Please stand up and fight for your people and your country.
