August 20

I am writing to express my deep concern and disappointment regarding the current administration’s stance on the situation in Gaza. As a voter who has always believed in the principles of justice and human rights, I am appalled by the ongoing support the United States provides to Israel as it commits what can only be described as genocide against the Palestinian people. The UN Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide clearly defines genocide, and what is happening in Gaza falls squarely within that definition. This is not merely a war; it is a systematic campaign to annihilate an entire population. The United States is complicit in this atrocity by continuing to provide military aid and support to Israel. Our tax dollars are funding the bombs that are killing innocent Palestinians, including hundreds of children. This is unacceptable. I am also deeply troubled by your response to the protesters in Detroit who raised these very concerns. Suggesting that their demands for justice and human rights could lead to a Trump victory is dismissive and troubling. As a leader, your responsibility is to listen to and address the legitimate grievances of marginalized communities, not to intimidate or silence them. Your “I’m speaking” retort does not absolve you from accountability. We need action, not rhetoric. The Palestinian people cannot survive on empathy alone. They need the violence to stop, and they need it to stop now. I am prepared to vote for you in the upcoming election, but only if you take a clear and unequivocal stand by supporting an arms embargo on Israel. The lip service we’ve seen so far is not enough. I will not cast my vote for someone who is aiding and abetting genocide. I do not owe you my vote, nor does anyone else. You are a public servant, and it is your duty to represent the people who elected you, not to take our support for granted. If you continue down this path of inaction, I will have no choice but to vote third-party, as I did in 2020. It is not about wanting Trump to win; it is about holding our leaders accountable and forcing them to do what is right. The time for platitudes and half-measures is over. You must earn my vote by taking a stand against the atrocities being committed in Gaza. Do not let history remember you as someone who stood by in silence while innocent lives were taken. The choice is yours.
