We must clarify the connections between the crises of the past and the present in order to determine the solutions we will champion. Most importantly, I am concerned about ALL of these affronts to democracy: • A Supreme Court that has ceased to represent majority opinions • Antidemocratic gerrymandering and a winner-takes-all electoral college • Failed Reagan era trickle-down economics that destroyed our middle class • Dark money masquerading as “free speech” corrupting our elections • Bailouts for banks not homeowners during the 2008 financial crisis • Medical care bankrupting families • Minority rule as the result of the racist and archaic filibuster • The relentless attack on unions
