As a social work professional working with children and families in Ohio, I see firsthand how poverty impacts housing stability, food security, access to healthcare, and children’s educational outcomes. The expanded Child Tax Credit has previously demonstrated measurable reductions in child poverty, helping families meet basic needs and reduce financial stress. This legislation is critically important to Ohio families who are working hard but struggling with rising costs of living. Many of the families I serve face difficult choices between paying rent, buying groceries, or covering medical expenses. Expanding the Child Tax Credit would provide direct, evidence-based financial support that keeps children safer, healthier, and better positioned to succeed. I strongly urge you to support and vote YES on the American Family Act.
