I am writing to urge you to oppose the Farm, Food, and National Security Act of 2026 (H.R. 7567) in its current form. While a robust Farm Bill is essential, this proposal contains several poison pill provisions that undermine local control and prioritize industrial conglomerates over everyday citizens.
I ask that you take a stand on the following critical issues:
- End Corporate Welfare: Our agricultural policy should prioritize small, independent family farms. I urge you to oppose provisions that funnel massive subsidies toward the wealthiest agribusinesses while leaving local producers to struggle with rising costs.
- Protect Nutrition and Fiscal Responsibility: Cutting SNAP benefits during a time of high food costs is not efficiency—it is a shift in the burden onto our local charities and churches. True fiscal responsibility means ensuring our tax dollars help vulnerable neighbors.
- Protect the Right to Sue: Section 10205 of this bill provides a liability shield for giant chemical companies, preventing farmers and consumers from holding them accountable in court for health and environmental damages. No federal bill should strip an individual's right to seek justice when harmed by a product.
- Respect State Sovereignty: This bill seeks to override state-level agricultural and safety standards (such as California’s Prop 12). I believe in the right of states to set their own standards. We must reject federal one-size-fits-all mandates that strip away local control in order to benefit industrial interests.
Please advocate for a Farm Bill that champions small business over monopolies, individual legal rights over corporate immunity, and state rights over federal overreach. I look forward to your vote against H.R. 7567 unless these harmful provisions are removed.
