A National Plate Replacement Option
One portal (or linked state portals) where a stolen NCIC entry automatically unlocks a replacement order
Choice at checkout: Same-day pickup at your local DMV, or mailed to the address on file
Shared verification so police, DMV, and toll agencies all see the same status in real time
That would be run through AAMVA - the group that already links all state DMVs - and tied into NCIC/NMVTIS. It would prevent someone else running your stolen plate while you wait weeks.
> Subject: Proposal for National License Plate Replacement System with Same-Day Option
>
> I am a constituent in Prosperity, SC. I reported my license plate stolen and it is in the NCIC system, but I have not received a replacement and DMV does not automatically issue one.
>
> I am requesting you consider legislation or a directive for a unified national system where:
>
> 1. When a plate is entered as stolen in NCIC, the owner is automatically eligible for a replacement through DMV.
> 2. The owner can choose: same-day pickup at their local DMV, or mailed delivery to the address on file.
> 3. State DMVs share real-time status through AAMVA/NMVTIS so law enforcement, DMV, and the public are on the same page.
