Today’s very serious questions to elected officials…what are we to do with a government whose leadership is based on gaslighting and lies? How is this government strategy viable, desirable, or beneficial in any way? Right now we are bombarded daily with not just noise from the fringes designed to outrage us and distort, but from the highest levels of government. Outrageous pronouncements are made, political crusades of revenge are begun, the process continues taking innocent victims and their lives down a hole of trying to fight innuendo and fabrication. Then sometimes, not always because the media has short attention spans, the whole effort is shown to be false and done purely for daily optics in the service of political agenda. But the damage is already done by planting seeds of unfounded suspicion, designed solely to damage and cast doubt. And it works. This is done with an eye not only to damage, but to distract we the people from what is actually going on while we’re looking at the daily shiny object. Our country is losing its soul. America was believed to be an example for freedom loving countries to emulate. In theory if not always in deed. But the baseline remained that America stood for truth and justice. And that we could be trusted. Our benefit to the world mostly outweighed our mistakes. But not anymore. Allies are looking for other more reliable partners, which include our historical enemies. Countries looking for, and fighting for, democracy cannot assume America will support them. Because we now operate solely on quid-pro-quo. We the people cannot believe anything that comes out of our leadership, even when it might be true. We have been groomed to be doubtful and mistrustful. The biggest lies in generations have become part and parcel of governmental manipulation of our democratic processes. We the people are not supported in our lives, the whole purpose of government as we know it. Our government no longer works for the people. It works for capitalism, led by the richest people in our country, whose interests are not our interests. We don’t have access to healthcare that we can afford. Hungry children are just considered a burden. Pregnant women are left to fend for themselves during a time that should be filled with joy but instead is filled with fear, because if something happens that requires medical assistance, good luck. Trans people are being relegated to the shadows and negated. And minorities are watching hard-earned gains in every area being slowly, or quickly, taken away. Our government is trying to take us backwards on every metric. Except bitcoin. Or AI. Or Mars colonization. Or any other out-in-the-ether concept that makes money for thee but not me. And we’re building ballrooms for national security while taking away voting rights for the same reason. Smoke and mirrors and lies. Welcome to the future of America.
