The situation in Gaza is deeply complex and any proposed solution must prioritize the rights and dignity of the Palestinian people. Rather than displacing Palestinians or having the U.S. take over Gaza, a more just path forward would be to support Palestinian self-determination and statehood in the occupied territories, including Gaza. Forcible transfer of civilians is prohibited under international law and would only breed further instability and suffering. The United States should use its influence to advance a negotiated two-state solution that upholds Palestinian rights, allows for an independent and viable Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital, and brings a just resolution to this long-standing conflict based on international law and human rights principles. A lasting peace requires respecting the aspirations of both Israelis and Palestinians, not unilateral actions that violate the rights of an occupied people.
