Vote NO on the SAVE America Act!
As a married woman, I would be negatively impacted by this Act, as would the majority of married women voters. The Act will make it much more difficult to retain our right to vote (even if it does not explicitly bar married women from voting).
- Spokesperson Leavitt admitted that the Act would require married women who’ve changed their names to re-register to vote.
- There’s no clear guidance in the Act about what documentation would be acceptable to use to prove the validity of one’s right to vote using a married name.
- Jurisdictions could even have different requirements regarding proof of eligibility, making it much more complicated to acquire needed documentation.
As it stands today, millions of women like me have absolutely no idea how we would be able to prove our citizenship to retain our voting rights under this Act. Why should married women be targeted for following tradition and changing our surnames when we got married? I shouldn’t need to reregister to continue to exercise my Constitutionally-bestowed right to vote.
The SAVE America Act is a despicable piece of legislation specifically designed to disenfranchise millions of voters, including me. Vote No!
