Policy Reaction: Stop Funding Violence

To: V.P. Harris

From: A verified voter in Walnut Creek, CA

September 10

Dear VP Kamala, Thank you for all you have done to get to this place in running for the President of the United States of America. My daughters and I have been talking about you since they were born (my oldest is 7.) I am writing today to share my disappointment in your policy positions, in particular: 1) an increase in spending for Israel, weapons, ICE, military spending, border wall construction and deportation. I disagree with an increase in funding any of these areas and want to see them decreased significantly. 2) Instead, funding areas you have omitted from your policy platform including: legalize abortion, fracking ban, increasing the minimum wage, healthcare for all, these areas deserve more focus and attention than supporting violence and weapons. 3) continuing to say “Israel has a right to defend itself” sounds like you’ve seen nothing the IDF has done to children and women in Gaza, the total destruction of the West Bank, the violence and murders of innocent lives, and the horrific tortures of Palestinians. Please don’t be the first woman president with a genocide on your watch. I implore you to not have policies like the men before you. I implore you to bring compassion to the White House and do more to end this epidemic of violence towards women and children EVERYWHERE. I am most saddened by your continued stance supporting dictator and bloodthirsty Netanyahu, as well as forgetting about the millions of women in America who can get an abortion or the basic maternal healthcare they deserve. Please do this all differently. We don’t want another guy in the Oval Office—we want you to lead us into a new era of prosperity and compassion, using government to help people, not corporations that benefit from weapons sales or usage. Please. Sincerely, Kara (My parents took me to an anti-abortion rally when I was a little girl. When interviewed by the local paper, I said “what if the unborn baby could become president?” I do still believe that but have learned it’s up to the woman to decide. Please support women more than you support men- and that also means not supporting violence and weaponry, of which those it harms the most are women and children. We want to believe you can be better for women and children- please be better than all the 46 men before you.
