Too much collateral damage - don't pass this budget bill!
To: Sen. Fischer, Sen. Ricketts
From: A constituent in Milligan, NE
May 24
This one administration is working hard on destroying the United States as we know it. Your job is to work for your constituents. Billionaire tax cuts are a policy choice. Cutting healthcare and food assistance for millions is a policy choice. Taking from the poor and giving to the rich is a policy choice. Make no mistake: Trump and YOU, the GOP, are choosing to do this. You can choose to fight it for your constituents and the rest of the country. Individual's Median income is $40,374 (2023 data), 2 income households median is $74,985. DO NOT pass the version of Trump’s One Big Ugly Bill that's already passed the House. 5.7% of Nebraska households are millionaires or billionaires (1). That is a massive minority of your constituents. If you are basing your votes on those households because they are financing your campaigns, you have big issues in your ethics and morality. It's not just money issues in this 'budget' bill, but far reaching changes to law and our rights. Your rights are included in that. I demand that you preserve the federal courts’ power to enforce their rulings by holding an administration in contempt. Otherwise you are stripping the courts and congress of all their Constitutional rights and the President no matter who he is in the future can and will run roughshod over every person in this country. Read the fine print. Read the bill. Items that will make good stewardship of our country's natural resources nearly imposible. For if you put public lands in the hands of the etractive industries, greed will continue to werak havoc with ari and water quality. I don't think you want to breathe air again like it was prior to the Clean Air Act - "In the 1960s, Omaha's air quality was significantly worse than it is today. The city was a major source of ozone and fine particulate matter, impacting the health of residents. Pollution from industrial sources and vehicles contributed to poor air quality." For someone who claimed his presidency and goals had nothing to do with Project 2025, and at one point claimed he didn't know what it it, he has appointed authors of it to positions and making it land within the big budget bill. If you are not worried about the deficit, you again have ethical and moral issues, and while I've seen a few estimates, they are all agree that this bill will ADD in the neighborhood of $2.5 trillion to the federal deficit over the next decade. You want to pass that on to your children, grandchildren and great grandchildren? Vote NO - there are other steps to make the government more efficient than this that creates much more problems. Vote NO!!
