Oppose Confirmation of Senator Markwayne Mullin as DHS Secretary
To: Sen. Gallego, Sen. Kelly
From: A verified voter in Tucson, AZ
March 7
I am writing to urge you to oppose the confirmation of Senator Markwayne Mullin as Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security. President Trump nominated Mullin on March 5th after firing Kristi Noem, and this appointment would continue a pattern of disastrous leadership that has endangered Americans and violated constitutional principles.
Mullin's record demonstrates he will perpetuate the administration's most harmful policies rather than reform them. He co-sponsored the Laken Riley Act and has taken extreme positions on immigration enforcement, including his statement that children who are United States citizens should be deported if their parents are undocumented. This position directly contradicts constitutional protections for American citizens and would tear families apart.
The Department of Homeland Security under this administration has been marked by ongoing human rights abuses, fraudulent waste of taxpayer dollars, and repeated defiance of court orders. After the murders of Renee Good and Alex Pretti, Mullin defended ICE agents rather than addressing systemic accountability issues within the agency. As a political appointee described as a MAGA warrior and staunch Trump defender, Mullin has shown no indication he would prioritize lawful operations or constitutional compliance over political loyalty.
DHS requires leadership that will restore integrity to the department, respect judicial oversight, and protect both national security and civil liberties. Mullin's hardline stance and unwavering defense of this administration's practices make him unsuitable for this critical role. The department needs a secretary who will end unlawful practices, not someone who will continue them.
I ask that you vote against Senator Mullin's confirmation and demand a nominee who will lead DHS with respect for the Constitution, fiscal responsibility, and genuine concern for American safety rather than political allegiance.
