The IRS is the revenue side of the government. If DOGE was actually concerned about waste then obviously cuts to the IRS would make no sense since they bring in 35 cents for every dollar they spend. They dropped investigations and made massive cuts to division responsible for dealing with the largest and most complicated claims from high value corporations and individuals. So it comes as no surprise that the Washington Post is reporting that tax revenue is down 10 percent this year as Trump’s cuts are emboldening tax cheats. People are wagering that auditors will not examine their accounts since they downsized 20 percent. It is obvious that the reason for the cuts to the IRS is that the billionaires at Heritage Foundation and the Elon and Thiel tech bros don’t want to pay their fair share of taxes. The loss amounts to 500 billion dollars which rivals the budget for military spending. Today Leland Dudek is threatening to shut down the agency in response to a temporary restraining order that prohibited Social Security officials from sharing PII with DOGE. The order noted that DOGE was involved in a phishing operation based on little more than suspicion and they never articulated a single reason that they needed access. Dudek was just a mid level staffer until he won his position as the head by secretly cooperating with DOGE’s demands for sensitive information. He even confessed to this on LinkedIn that he got the position by bullying agency executives, sharing contact information and circumventing the chain of command to connect DOGE to the right people. They are cutting 7000 employees at SSA even though they were at a 50 year low in staffing as the number of applications is skyrocketing. They closed 10 field offices with and there are termination notices for 4 more. They are restructuring to eliminate 6 out of 10 regional offices. Regional offices are the quality control of the department. It is where problems that can’t be solved get escalated. Regional offices support field offices. There will be a huge backlog if they have to go through a central office. They shut down the departs at SSA that deal with technology and online interfaces that American cans use to apply for their benefits. They also are rooting out the agency responsible for troubleshooting inefficiencies. They are doing these massive cuts as they are requiring more people to go to field offices because they are eliminating phone verification. The 3 DOGE operatives responsible have ties to Peter Thiel and Elon Musk. DOGE had unfettered access Social Security data and systems including source code that allows them to shut things off. They hooked up hard drives which is a security breach that goes against everything we are taught. There are reasons people with security clearances get extensive background checks and only get limited information.
